The reports at Vardon school are as follows:
1. School Entry Report
Your child's teacher will assess your child soon after they have been at school. The School Entry Assessment is a group of 'tests' that many schools across New Zealand also use to assess 5 year olds. It is norm referenced, so we can gather accurate information that shows your
child’s Literacy and Numeracy knowledge. It is administered within the first
six weeks after starting school and identifies your child’s learning development.
Learning goals are set with you as the parents, for your child.
Each Teacher will make contact with you soon after completing this assessment known as the School Entry Assessment (SEA). Parent interviews will be held at a time that most suits parents and teachers, and sometimes this falls within the scheduled interview period for the rest of the school.
A written report will also be provided at the time of the interview and you will be able to take this away with you. Please note that some children who have only just started school may not have an interview and receive a report until February 2013. In the interim, if you have any questions or want to touch base with me on any matter, please feel free to pop in to Room 3 on any morning.
2. PROGRESS REPORT
A progress report shows your child’s progress towards their learning goals. This report comes
‘halfway through’ a year of learning and identifies your child’s next steps in
this process. Learning goals are reset between the teacher, your child and you.
In Years 1-2
The progress report will be provided along with an interview after your child has been at school for around 6 months, or 2 school terms.
In Years 3-6
The progress report will be provided for every child in May, or near the end of Term 2 each year.
3. ACHIEVEMENT REPORT
An achievement report is the report that is
written to show what your child has learned after a whole year of learning.
In Years 1-2
The Achievement report is provided on the anniversary of/or near your child’s date that they first started
school. Achievement reports come after
a whole year of learning. They are therefore, like what you are used to seeing at the end-of-year
because they are written at the end of an instructional year.
They are a statement that sums up the year, celebrates what has been learnt and
sets guidelines for the next year of learning.
In Years 3-6
The Achievement report will be provided for every child in December, or near the end of Term 4, each year.
